Family Fun Activities at Downtown Disney

Posted by: Travel Expert Posted Date: 10/03/2011

If you are planning a trip to Orlando, be sure not to miss Downtown Disney. It's the restaurant and shopping district in Walt Disney World. It doesn't cost anything to enter or park there and it offers much more family fun in Orlando than many people realize. There are a lot of free or inexpensive activities for the kids to do while their parents shop.

Free Fun Activities

There is a Lego store at Downtown Disney that offers free Lego building activities. The kids can play with Legos or walk around and look at the large Lego sculptures. This shop is especially fun for kids because they offer a free building project that the kids can take home. Just check at their guest services desk to see when they will be offering this activity during your trip.

Water Playgrounds

The water playgrounds are probably the most popular activity for family fun in Orlando. If you are planning on letting your children enjoy this activity, be sure to bring your child's swimsuit and water shoes. The water playgrounds are actually fountains that are built into the sidewalk and squirt water randomly up through the cement. The kids love to run through them to see if they can get across the space without getting wet. This could keep your kids busy for hours on a hot day.

There is also a small train and carousel at Downtown Disney, but there are small fees for these activities. These rides are best suited for toddlers or preschool age children.

If you are looking for family fun in Orlando, be sure to stop by Downtown Disney. Even if you are not interested in shopping or eating at the restaurants, there are plenty of free things for your kids to see and do.

Visit OrlandoTravelHotels.com to plan your family's visit to Orlando.  You'll find great fares on flights and guaranteed rates on hotel rooms.  Make plans to see all Orlando has to offer and get here at a great price!

The greater Orlando area in central Florida is one of the most popular vacation destinations not only in the state, but in the world. The main attraction is the gigantic Disney World entertainment complex about twenty miles west of Orlando, but there is a host of other attractions in and around town.

Walt Disney World is definitely Orlando’s main attraction, but the city has lots more to offer than just Mickey Mouse and the Magic Kingdom. Home to over 100 golf courses, 7 museums -- including the popular Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Orlando Odditorium -- 4,500 restaurants and several major theme parks, Orlando is brimming with entertainment options for people of all ages and interests.

Theme Park Fun for Children and Adults

Hugging Goofy and Cinderella are what childhood dreams are made of, but did you know Disney also offers several adult entertainment options? If you’re staying within the resort, simply drop the kids off with Disney’s certified childcare workers and enjoy a night out on the town. While there are dozens of bars and clubs on the grounds, Pleasure Island and the Art Deco-inspired Belle Vue Room consistently get rave reviews.

And while Disney may dominate the Orlando theme park scene, they’re certainly not the only game in town. SeaWorld, Universal Studios and Discovery Cove all have impressive acreage and exciting attractions within the Orlando metropolitan area.

Orlando’s Arctic Circle of Alcohol

When in Orlando, bar connoisseurs must find their way to the ICEBAR. Voted one of “America’s Best Bars” by the Food Network, the ICEBAR is an experience not to be missed. Besides, what better way to escape the Florida heat than in a watering hole made from 50 tons of ice!

Be warned, the temperature is kept at a shiver-inducing 27 degrees; but don’t despair, guests are given cozy thermal capes and gloves upon arrival. If it gets too cold, simply slink over to the other side of the establishment and warm up in the Fire Lounge.

Orlando is home to a plethora of exquisite restaurants that revolve around world-class chefs that take great passion in the art of creating delectable cuisine. Orlando restaurants truly offer amazing cuisine for everyone, including those with a discerning palate.

A Hidden Orlando Dining Treasure

Tucked away just steps from Orlando’s restaurant row, one will find Chatham’s Place Restaurant. For over twenty years, owners Tony Lopez and Maurice Colindres have served extraordinary cuisine in a magical ambiance. Locals and tourists return to Chatham’s Place Restaurant repeatedly as well as invite others to experience the delectable entrees of this fine restaurant. If one is craving delicious continental cuisine, make time to visit Chatham’s.

Authentic Cuban Cuisine

If one is yearning for authentic Cuban cuisine, enjoy a mouth-watering meal at Padrino’s Cuban Bistro. You’ll find a variety of Orlando restaurants that serve Cuban inspired dishes, but Padrino’s Cuban Bistro brings the taste of traditional Cuban entrees in the form of original recipes that have been used by Mrs. Padrino dating back to the early 1960s while living in Cuba.

Guests may choose from various tapas in order to sample many Cuban flavors in one sitting or they can savor one of many chicken, seafood, beef and pork dishes. Complete the elegant dining experiences by relishing on a traditional Cuban dessert. The flan is a Cuban favorite, but the Pudin de Pan has a uniquely exceptional flavor with a hint of coconut and soft raisins. Put the added touch to this already stunning dessert by adding a scoop of Haagen-Dazs ice cream.

Survey Says, Orlando #1 Spring Break Destination for 2011

Posted by: Travel Expert Posted Date: 03/17/2011

First, Orlando surpassed Las Vegas as the top tourist destination and now Orlando has dethroned Vegas in another category, Most Popular Spring Break Travel Destination for 2011.  These results are according to an Orbitz survey.

Last year, Orlando ranked #5 so it looks like it wasn’t just Las Vegas that was surpassed.  Perhaps Orlando came out tops in this survey because it is a family-friendly location.  Not all Spring break travelers are college kids looking for the next beach keg party. In fact, the survey indicates 88% of the respondents try to avoid popular Spring break locations for the college-age group.

The fact is, four Florida locations ended up in the top ten of this list.  Of course, Miami/Fort Lauderdale made it, but Fort Myers and Tampa also are hot destinations this Spring break.

If Orlando Doesn’t Have It, It’s Close By

Orlando pretty much has it all.  You can find the world’s greatest theme parks, sporting venues, recreational opportunities, and oh yeah, you are within easy driving distance to beaches not just the Atlantic Ocean, but the Gulf of Mexico too.  Pick your beautiful poison on this one.

Many cruise lines call Port Canaveral home and you can fly into Orlando International Airport and catch a shuttle over to set sail for an exotic location.  Check out the newest ship in Disney’s fleet, the Disney Dream.  I hear it really is a dream of a ship.

For sports enthusiasts, the Orlando area is home for spring training to many Major League Baseball teams.  The Atlanta Braves, Houston Astros, and New York Yankees are just a few of the teams you can see play while you are in town.

It’s no wonder that Orlando came out on top in this survey.  There are just so many different things to do and enjoy. Regardless of age, you can have a great time in Orlando -  not just in the Spring, but any time of the year.

Save on Spring Break Travel

Visit OrlandoTravelHotels.com to find savings on all your Spring break travel needs.  Great pricing on hotels, flights, cruises, rental cars, and more are right at your fingertips.  Let OrlandoTravelHotels.com do the work so you can enjoy a relaxing time in Orlando or anywhere else in Florida.
