Transportation in Orlando Made Easy

Posted by: Travel Expert Posted Date: 08/15/2011

Will you be visiting Orlando, Florida, soon? If you're like most travelers, you're probably flying into the Orlando International Airport and will have to select some mode of transportation.

When you arrive, the first and most obvious mode of transportation in Orlando is the taxi. You can take a cheap taxi from the airport to your hotel. However, if you will be doing a lot of sightseeing around the city, it's important - and oftentimes more convenient - to have your own vehicle rather than rely on the schedule of a hotel shuttle bus.

Renting a car can be much cheaper than paying a taxi to drive you to and from destinations. It's also easier, because you can come and go as you please, without having to call for or wave down the drivers.

Rentals in Orlando

There are several ways to book rental cars. First, you can go online and choose the rental company of your choice, reserving a vehicle before you hit the city. This is easily done, especially with the speed of today's internet services. Second, you can rent a car at the airport. Third, your hotel may provide a car rental service or endorsement that allows you to rent a car at a lower rate.

Buses and Tours

Another option of transportation in Orlando is buses. Although taking the city bus may not seem like the most ideal mode of traveling at first glance, Orlando buses are quite efficient. For a low price, you can get to the top tourist hot spots in the area. Also, they arrive every five minutes, regardless of rain or shine. Tour shuttles and vans also give you a quick overview of the city, allowing you to stop off at interesting locations before continuing on with your travels.

When it comes to obtaining transportation in Orlando, your options are endless.  Choose the option that best suits your need while in town.

OrlandoTravelHotels.com offers great prices on car rentals.  Take care of all your travel needs simply by visiting OrlandoTravelHotels.com

Posted by: Travel Expert Posted Date: 08/15/2011

Orlando is a vibrant and fascinating city, but it's best known for its theme parks. For some, they can be overwhelming or one may just desire to get away from the city for a little while. Day trips can be an inexpensive way to inject some adventure into the daily routine without jetting off on an expensive vacation.

The area surrounding Orlando is brimming with fun and interesting outings for those looking to get away for the day.

Spend the Day with Astronauts

Less than an hour from Orlando is Titusville, where Floridians can get a taste of the life of an astronaut. This town has offered some of the best views of a shuttle launch. Even if it is not launch day, head over to the Kennedy Space Center to take a tour. This is the best way to learn about NASA and the astronauts.

Journey to the Center of the Earth

Devil’s Millhopper Geological State Park in Gainesville has fascinated curious tourists since the 1880s. This bowl-shaped hole in the earth leads to a rainforest and sinkhole. Small streams trickle down into the chasm where researchers have found fossilized marine life and continue to learn about the pre-historic world. Visitors to the park can hike through the lush forests, enjoy a picnic, and learn more about the sink hole through various displays at the park.

Florida’s Peaceful Beach

Flagler Beach sits on an island between the Atlantic and Intracoastal Waterway not far from Orlando. The town is popular with fisherman and those who enjoy a good farmer’s market. The charming town offers relaxation to anyone looking to escape city life for the day.

Day trips are a fantastic way to let go of stress and enjoy the area outside of town. Certainly, Orlando has a lot to offer, but sometimes it is necessary to just set out and discover something new.

Orlando Entertainment Knows No Bounds

Walt Disney World is definitely Orlando’s main attraction, but the city has lots more to offer than just Mickey Mouse and the Magic Kingdom. Home to over 100 golf courses, 7 museums -- including the popular Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Orlando Odditorium -- 4,500 restaurants and several major theme parks, Orlando is brimming with entertainment options for people of all ages and interests.

Theme Park Fun for Children and Adults

Hugging Goofy and Cinderella are what childhood dreams are made of, but did you know Disney also offers several adult entertainment options? If you’re staying within the resort, simply drop the kids off with Disney’s certified childcare workers and enjoy a night out on the town. While there are dozens of bars and clubs on the grounds, Pleasure Island and the Art Deco-inspired Belle Vue Room consistently get rave reviews.

And while Disney may dominate the Orlando theme park scene, they’re certainly not the only game in town. SeaWorld, Universal Studios and Discovery Cove all have impressive acreage and exciting attractions within the Orlando metropolitan area.

Orlando’s Arctic Circle of Alcohol

When in Orlando, bar connoisseurs must find their way to the ICEBAR. Voted one of “America’s Best Bars” by the Food Network, the ICEBAR is an experience not to be missed. Besides, what better way to escape the Florida heat than in a watering hole made from 50 tons of ice!

Be warned, the temperature is kept at a shiver-inducing 27 degrees; but don’t despair, guests are given cozy thermal capes and gloves upon arrival. If it gets too cold, simply slink over to the other side of the establishment and warm up in the Fire Lounge.

An Indie-an Summer in Orlando

Posted by: Travel Expert Posted Date: 06/21/2011

The nightlife and concerts that come to Orlando are almost unbeatable.  Once again, Orlando will be hosting a couple of indie rock’s most popular bands in the coming months. Florence + The Machine will be arriving at the Hard Rock Live to imbue the audience with their soulful sound later in June. Animal Collective, the experimental and always interesting New York-based band, will be taking the stage at Beacham Theater in July.

Each of these artists are well worth seeing in concert. You'll want to see Florence Welch’s outfit and see what a man who calls himself Panda Bear looks like in person.

Florence + The Machine

The British sensation will be performing at the Hard Rock Live June 30, 2011. This indie darling has proven to have some real star power after being nominated for Best New Artist. The lyrical beauty and catchy melodies have developed a fervent fan base for this UK-based band. This concert should be an ethereal and unforgettable experience for anyone who attends.

Animal Collective

For the die-hard fans, this upcoming concert is a must see. The prolific, yet underrated, collective is currently previewing new songs at their 2011 shows. Eventually, the songs will be compiled into their newest album to be released after the tour. The critically acclaimed 2011 tour will be hitting Orlando July 7th at Beacham Theater.

While Florence + The Machine is perhaps the more accessible of the two bands, neither of these concerts should be missed. Florence Welch’s haunting voice creates a concert experience unlike any other. She has undeniable presence on stage and commands the audience’s attention.

Animal Collective is also quite adept at commanding attention with their experimental sound that is a bit difficult for some to grasp, but their fans will be pleased to experience new material first hand at the upcoming show. So, plan on hitting up concerts to add a little music to the summer.

Travelling in and Around Orlando

Posted by: Travel Expert Posted Date: 05/31/2011

Many travelers make the mistake of only planning the destination, the hotel, the airfare, and the entertainment. As if that was not enough, it’s also important to know how to get around the destination city because getting lost or getting the car booted can put a major damper on any trip. When it comes to Orlando travel, it’s important to take parking and driving into consideration.

A GPS Can Help, But….

GPS tools are great, but it is important to have a little independence from electronic devices. Orlando is a city that is still growing and developing, and many GPS devices do not accurately represent numerous construction areas and detours. Similarly, programs do not always reflect existing roads such as one way streets. These can be a nightmare for tourists, so it is important for a navigator to be familiar with the ins and outs of the necessary city streets.

Have Money for Tolls

Orlando is one of the many cities that employ toll roads. These toll roads, like any major roadway, can become a mess at certain hours. It is important to keep these busy hours in mind and keep some change on hand if toll roads are in the cards for your Orlando trip. Like the other cities, business still goes on regardless of family vacations, so work-related traffic cannot always be avoided.

Orlando Pay to Park Lots

Improper parking is a serious offense in Orlando. The tourist-driven areas have a number of pay-to-park lots that have an all day fee, but the fees can get pricey if you do not plan to spend more than an hour or two in that area. Even so, these small lots are often the fastest and easiest ways to grab a spot. There are parking garages, but it is important to note the hours and the charge to prevent overcharging or being trapped in.

Leave the Travel Plans to OTH

You worry about the roads and directions and let OrlandoTravelHotels.com (OTH) worry with finding you the best pricing on hotels, flights, etc.  Find the perfect hotel closest to your destination or let OTH suggest other hotels for you based on price or location.

Orlando travel can be exciting, but getting caught in traffic or ticketed for a parking violation can somewhat taint the memories. Keeping traffic and parking in mind when planning your vacation is as important as finding the best flight or hotel room.

The Last Liftoff for Endeavour

Posted by: Travel Expert Posted Date: 05/03/2011

NASA prepares to retire its second shuttle as Endeavour readies for its last mission.  Originally scheduled to liftoff on April 19th, the shuttle launch was scrubbed after an electrical problem was discovered prior to launch.  Repairs are now occurring and the earliest the launch will occur is now May 10, 2011.

Endeavour was constructed to replace the Challenger that exploded during flight in 1986.  Since Endeavour’s first launch in 1992, it has been a part of many firsts.  Among those, it was the first shuttle to use a drag chute during landing and the first mission to service the Hubble Space Telescope.

Mission Number 25 for Endeavour

This final mission will be number 25 for Endeavour. During the mission, the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer will be delivered to the International Space Station as well as delivering a platform that will carry spare parts to sustain space station operation after the shuttles are retired.  Sadly, this will be the last scheduled spacewalk by man.

I am sad to see the space shuttle program come to an end.  Discovery took its final launch in 2010. Seeing the shuttles launch has long been a favorite and exciting activity for me.  Hopefully, it will return at some point in the not too distant future.

Launch Travel Plans

Visit OrlandoTravelHotels.com to make your travel plans to see the last launch of Endeavour.  You can find great savings on flights and hotels.  Even select hotels close to the launch site for added convenience.

Don’t miss a chance to see history.  Make arrangements now for viewing this historic Endeavour launch.

Orlando – Build It and They Will Come

Posted by: Travel Expert Posted Date: 04/26/2011

Orlando Hotel

It seems as though Orlando has taken its own spin of the movie quote “If you build it, he will come.”  According to a recent USA Today Travel report, Orlando ranks as the #2 U.S. destinations with the most hotel rooms under construction.

The report states there are currently 2,636 rooms under construction in the greater Orlando area.  One of my favorite hotels, Wyndham Grand Orlando Resort Bonnet Creek, will open 400 additional rooms in October of this year.  In 2012, Disney will be opening its highly-anticipated Art of Animation Resort.  This will provide another 1,984 rooms.

Orlando Hotels for Every Budget

Orlando boasts the most hotels in the country and the most hotel rooms.  One of the best things about these Orlando tourism statistics is you can find rooms/amenities to fit within any budget.

Visit OrlandoTravelHotels.com to find guaranteed savings on your hotel rooms, flights and more.  Save up to an average of $525 when you make your hotel and flight reservations at the same time.

It’s no small wonder they can continue to build hotel rooms in Orlando.  It is a top destination and whatever is built here, people want to come see it.  Make plans to visit this great city and experience all she has to offer you and your family.

Tim McGraw Heads to Orlando

Posted by: Travel Expert Posted Date: 04/19/2011

In 2010, Billboard named Tim McGraw and his band, the Dancehall Doctors, the top touring country music act.  I wouldn’t be surprised if they did a repeat in 2011.  Tim McGraw brings his Emotional Traffic tour to Amway Center  in Orlando on May 1, 2011.

Tim McGraw has won awards ranging from Grammys to People’s Choice. He has sold over 40 million records and has had 32 No. 1 singles.  He’s even starred on the big screen in several movies including my favorite, The Blind Side.

Award-Winning McGraw Puts on Quite the Concert

There are many talented singers with beautiful voices, but some of them just don’t cut it as concert performers.  McGraw doesn’t fall anywhere near that category.  He is such a performer and his concerts always prove to be a memorable experience.

You’ll hear many of your favorite songs including his hot-selling new single Felt Good on My Lips.  Also touring with McGraw are special guests Luke Bryan and The Band Perry.  The Band Perry is fresh off their Academy of Country Music Awards wins as Top New Vocal Duo or Group and Top New Artist.

A Great Concert in a Great City

The Amway Center is Orlando provides the perfect setting for what will no doubt be an incredible concert.  Orlando itself offers so many things to do in and around the city.  Spend a few extra days with us to enjoy the theme parks, nearby beaches, and fantastic restaurants.

OrlandoTravelHotels.com will ensure you find the best deals on flights, hotels, and more for your visit to the place known as The City Beautiful.  You’ll experience a great concert in a great city.  Take some extra time to enjoy all things Orlando.

The Hall of Presidents at Magic Kingdom

Posted by: Travel Expert Posted Date: 03/28/2011

I’ve lived in Orlando a long time and I guess there’s so much to do here, some things just slip by you.  I wasn’t aware of The Hall of Presidents at Magic Kingdom until recently and it is quite fascinating.

Whether or not you are a history buff, The Hall of Presidents is so much more than just a lesson on past presidents.  Walt Disney Imagineering created a robotics form called audio-animatronics.  This allows the presidents to come to life with movements and sounds.

Hear Famous Presidential Speeches and More

This multi-media presentation includes President Obama giving the presidential oath, a musical score composed and conducted by Emmy winner Joel McNeely, films, painting, and more.

You will hear the familiar voice of Morgan Freeman as he narrates the presentation and the introduction of each president is made.  Hear famous speeches made by George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.

I found the movements from the figures on stage simply amazing.  You’ll see the presidents turn and speak to each other and perform familiar gestures.  I was particularly struck by how much the gestures of President Obama were reflected in the audio-animatronics likeness of him.

I simply had missed this wonderful attraction at Magic Kingdom and I’m so glad I ran across it.  You should definitely take time to view this incredible and life-like performance on your visit to Disney World.

Amway Center will provide the backdrop for one of today’s most innovative and interesting pop stars.  Lady Gaga will bring her Monster Ball Tour to Orlando on April 15, 2011.

Given Gaga’s flair for flamboyance, there is little doubt this will be an unforgettable concert experience for anyone who attends.  If you caught this year’s Grammy appearance, I think you know what I mean.

Lady Gaga will surely be performing most of her hit records like “Poker Face”, “Paparazzi”, “Bad Romance”, “Telephone”, and the recently released “Born This Way”.  Her stage performances are legendary and she will surely light up Amway Center.

Not only does Lady Gaga put her talents to use on stage, she also puts them to work for several philanthropic and humanitarian organizations.  She has donated thousands of dollars to the Haitian earthquake relief efforts and she is an avid supporter of LGBT and worldwide efforts to prevent HIV and AIDS.

Survey Says, Orlando #1 Spring Break Destination for 2011

Posted by: Travel Expert Posted Date: 03/17/2011

First, Orlando surpassed Las Vegas as the top tourist destination and now Orlando has dethroned Vegas in another category, Most Popular Spring Break Travel Destination for 2011.  These results are according to an Orbitz survey.

Last year, Orlando ranked #5 so it looks like it wasn’t just Las Vegas that was surpassed.  Perhaps Orlando came out tops in this survey because it is a family-friendly location.  Not all Spring break travelers are college kids looking for the next beach keg party. In fact, the survey indicates 88% of the respondents try to avoid popular Spring break locations for the college-age group.

The fact is, four Florida locations ended up in the top ten of this list.  Of course, Miami/Fort Lauderdale made it, but Fort Myers and Tampa also are hot destinations this Spring break.

If Orlando Doesn’t Have It, It’s Close By

Orlando pretty much has it all.  You can find the world’s greatest theme parks, sporting venues, recreational opportunities, and oh yeah, you are within easy driving distance to beaches not just the Atlantic Ocean, but the Gulf of Mexico too.  Pick your beautiful poison on this one.

Many cruise lines call Port Canaveral home and you can fly into Orlando International Airport and catch a shuttle over to set sail for an exotic location.  Check out the newest ship in Disney’s fleet, the Disney Dream.  I hear it really is a dream of a ship.

For sports enthusiasts, the Orlando area is home for spring training to many Major League Baseball teams.  The Atlanta Braves, Houston Astros, and New York Yankees are just a few of the teams you can see play while you are in town.

It’s no wonder that Orlando came out on top in this survey.  There are just so many different things to do and enjoy. Regardless of age, you can have a great time in Orlando -  not just in the Spring, but any time of the year.

Pet Airways Expands to Include Orlando

Posted by: Travel Expert Posted Date: 03/15/2011

Heading to Orlando this summer and want to take Fido?  Your furry companion can travel in style on Pet Airways.  The only airline dubbed as specifically designed for the safe and comfortable transportation of pets will be adding Orlando to its route just in time for summer vacation.

Pet Airways is based out of Delray Beach, FL and is strictly an airline for pets.  Traditionally, airlines that allow pet travel place them in the cargo hold of the plane.  I remember flying one of my old dogs that way several years ago and I was a nervous wreck.

Your Pet Becomes a Pawsenger

On Pet Airways, your animal flies in the main cabin and is considered a Pawsenger™.  An in-flight attendant monitors your pet and ensures their comfort and safety.  They even offer a flight tracking system so you can monitor your pet as they fly the friendly skies.

Orlando will join other major cities currently on the flight route such as Atlanta, Chicago, Los Angeles, and Phoenix.  The Orlando facility for Pet Airways will provide a new style of pet lounge and will offer grooming and ground transportation services.

If you’re an animal lover, you're probably like me and consider your pets an integral part of the family.  It’s not much fun for anyone to make a long or cross-country trip with a carload of animals and people.  Take a look at the Pet Airways schedule and consider flying your animal in style to your final destination.

Save on Human Travel

Your pet will fly in style and you can too as you both travel to meet up at your final destination.  Make all your travel plans through OrlandoTravelHotels.com and find great deals on hotels, flights, and more.  OrlandoTravelHotels.com provides savings no matter where you and your furry companion are traveling.

Experience the Winter Park Arts Festival 2011

Posted by: Travel Expert Posted Date: 03/01/2011
One of my favorite things to do in the Orlando area is just around the corner.  That’s right; the 2011 Winter Park Sidewalk Art Festival is March 18-20.  I remember the amazement I felt when I went for the first time in 2000 and it has not diminished over the years.

52nd Annual Winter Park Sidewalk Art FestivalThis is year 52 for the festival and it will be attended by more than 350,000 folks.  There will be 225 artists on hand this year, each carefully selected from a pool of 1,200 entries.  Each year brings back many of my favorite artists plus some exciting new talent that produces incredible items across various artistic categories.  The categories include:
  • Clay
  • Digital Art
  • Drawing and Graphics
  • Fiber
  • Glass
  • Jewelry
  • Leather
  • Metal
  • Mixed Media
  • Painting
  • Photography
  • Sculpture
  • Watercolor
  • Wood

Large-Scale Talent in a Quaint Setting

I think one of my favorite things about the festival is its location.  Winter Park is a quaint city with brick-lined streets and the festival is held at Central Park, smack dab in the center of town.

Not only can you enjoy and purchase some great artwork, you can choose from delicious food offerings and hear some fantastic live music.  If you’ve never gone to the Winter Park Sidewalk Arts Festival, check it out if you’re in town March 18-20, 2011.  You’ll probably find yourself becoming like me, a fan who looks forward to attending every year.

Fill Your Need for Speed at the 2011 Daytona 500

Posted by: Travel Expert Posted Date: 02/15/2011

That’s right, start your engines as we head into the final Speedweeks and the Daytona 500 race.  The actual race is Sunday, February 20, 2011, but there are lots of activities leading up to the race.

There’s some great music on tap, including a concert by Brad Paisley.  Opt for the Sprint FANZONE Pre-Race Pit Pass to have the ultimate race experience ranging from attending driver question and answer sessions to putting your autograph on the start/finish line before the race.

The Super Bowl of Stock Car Racing

The Daytona 500 is at times alternately referred to as “The Super Bowl of Stock Car Racing” or “The Great American Race”.  There’s no doubt these are appropriate titles for this race.

You’ll see some of your favorite racers in what promises to be another thrilling Daytona 500.  Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Jeff Gordon secured the front row starting spots during the qualifying race.  You’ll also see crowd favorites Jeff Burton, Jimmie Johnson, Tony Stewart, Bill Elliott, and many others as 43 of the most-electrifying drivers vie for this coveted championship win.

An Experience of a Lifetime

Daytona is located in close proximity of Orlando.  Many fans fly into Orlando International Airport and take the short drive over to Daytona for pre-race events and the final race on Sunday.

Zip over to OrlandoTravelHotels.com to make your flight and hotel reservations online. You’ll find hotels rooms on sale, some as much as 65% off already discounted prices.

Rent a car to head over to Daytona for all the activities, but don’t drive like one of your stock car heroes.  You’ll want to make it a safe trip over and of course, ticket free!

Painting It Green and Yellow at Disney World

Posted by: Travel Expert Posted Date: 02/08/2011

Yes, the MVP of Super Bowl XLV (that’s 45 for us non-roman numeral folks) did just what he said he would.  He went to Disney World!  Aaron Rodgers, the quarterback for the Green Bay Packers took a ride on a float with Mickey Mouse at Magic Kingdom just 24 hours after steering the Packers to a Super Bowl victory.

Green Bay Puts It On the Steelers

Green Bay topped the Pittsburgh Steelers 31-25 in what was one of the better Super Bowl’s I’ve ever witnessed.  Seeing as I’m a lifelong Packer fan; I was naturally thrilled with the outcome.

Rodgers threw three touchdown passes, racked up 304 yards, and best of all, threw no interceptions.  They key to the game probably came down to the turnovers.  The Pittsburgh Steelers turned the ball over three times.  It’s difficult to overcome that on such a large stage as the Super Bowl.

I’m Going To Disney World

It’s only fitting the Most Valuable Player of the Super Bowl goes to Disney World the day after the game.  I’m trying to remember the last time the winner didn’t say in the postgame, “I’m going to Disney World!”

So on this day, Aaron Rodgers might have actually upstaged Mickey.  There was plenty of green and yellow on this day at Disney World to celebrate not only the Super Bowl win for the Green Bay Packers, but to celebrate the game’s Most Valuable Player, one Aaron Rodgers.

Congratulations to Both Super Bowl Teams

We at OrlandoTravelHotels.com congratulate the Packers on their win and the Steelers for playing one heck of a game.  You might have missed the parade with Aaron, but you can always find great deals for your trip to Disney World or anywhere else simply by visiting OrlandoTravelHotels.com.  You’ll get fantastic pricing on hotel rooms, flights, and more at one convenient location.  Treat yourself like an MVP and head to Disney World.

Fantasyland – Largest Expansion in Magic Kingdom History

Posted by: Travel Expert Posted Date: 01/27/2011

For all you Magic Kingdom lovers, you’ll be pleased to know the Fantasyland project is underway.  Fantasyland is the largest expansion project ever undertaken at Magic Kingdom in Orlando.

Many of the current buildings and attractions will be updated or revamped while there will be many new areas constructed.  The project will open in phases with some areas scheduled to open in 2012 and the remainder in 2013.

Double the Size, Double the Fun

The expansion project will almost double the current size of Fantasyland.  That means you can have twice the amount of fun.

Folks seem to be most excited about the all-new Under the Sea: Journey of The Little Mermaid.  You’ll be entertained on this ride by Ariel and friends while listening to your favorite songs from the animated film.

Other features in the expansion include:

•    The Seven Dwarfs Mine Train
•    Additions to Dumbo the Flying Elephant
•    Beast’s Castle
•    Be Our Guest Restaurant
•    Enchanted Tales with Belle
•    Storybook Circus
•    Princess Fairytale Hall

These are just a few of the new or improved experiences you will find when the Fantasyland expansion project is complete.  Nobody does it better than Disney and I can’t wait to see Fantasyland once everything is complete.

Use OrlandoTravelHotels.com to find guaranteed deals on hotel rooms and flights for a song in and out of Orlando.  You’ll save enough money booking your travel through OrlandoTravelHotels.com that you can visit Magic Kingdom before the expanded Fantasyland is complete and after!

Check Out the Nightlife on Church Street in Orlando

Posted by: Travel Expert Posted Date: 12/21/2010

What began as a railroad station in the late 1800’s is now a must-do stop in the Orlando nightlife circuit.  Church Street Station is located in downtown Orlando and you will definitely need to check it out while you are in town.

5 Great Orlando Bars

Church Street Station has a lot to offer in entertainment but the main draw is the nightlife and nightclubs.

•    Antigua – the interior design is sleek and the atmosphere is nothing but high energy.  VIP areas are offered and they have different bars conveniently located throughout the club.

•    Big Belly – it has a feel of a favorite watering hole.  Dance on the floor or on the pole to music spun by the DJ.  Big Belly also has some great sandwiches and burgers.

•    Chillers – definitely a party bar along the Key West style.  It’s a fun, laid-back bar specializing in frozen drinks.  You’ll be hard pressed to find a tastier daiquiri.

•     Latitudes – a rooftop bar that allows you to see the Orlando skyline.  The tropical atmosphere makes it a great place to kick back and enjoy the great drink specials they offer.

•    Rok Room – a newcomer to Church Street nightlife, it’s the newest rock bar in town with an ultra lounge feel.

Orlando offers some really great nightlife.  Don’t use up all that energy at the theme parks; save some to party down at one of the clubs on Church Street.  There are awesome hotels in the area, fantastic restaurant options, and it’s a stone’s throw from the amazing new Amway Center.

Leu Gardens is a hot ticket in town not only for its beautiful gardens, but its special events like outdoor movie nights.  Bring your blankets, chairs, a picnic basket and watch the movie under the stars with family and friends.

An outdoor movie night at Leu Gardens is just one of the fun things to do in Orlando.  The holiday season in Orlando is filled with special events.  Be sure not to miss a seasonal favorite in Polar Express as you make your list of holiday activities.

Have a Little Patience When Flying Out of Orlando International Airport

Posted by: Travel Expert Posted Date: 11/09/2010

Departing the Orlando International Airport (OIA) definitely requires a good deal of patience. I’ve noticed with each departure trip lately, the wait in security is getting longer and longer.  I’ve tried flying out at different times of day and even flying different airlines.  The result is the same, a long stand in security.

To be fair, OIA is the 22nd largest airport in the world and the 3rd largest for domestic travel in the United States.  There were over 33 million travelers to pass through OIA in 2009.  Just further proof everyone wants to come to Orlando.

Get to Orlando Airport in Plenty of Time

My last two wait times in OIA security were 46 and 57 minutes respectively.  I’m not sure why they have it set up like they do, but the process really does resemble the herding of cattle.  The important thing is to get to the airport in plenty of time in case you have to spend an inordinate amount of time getting through security.

Even if you have to spend a little extra time getting processed through security, Orlando is a great place to visit and the airport is one of the prettiest I’ve ever seen.  Make all your travel reservations for your next trip to Orlando through OrlandoTravelHotels.com.  You’ll find hotels on sale and when making your flight and hotel reservations at the same time, you can save an average of $525.

Don’t let a little airport wait deter you from heading to Orlando.  Just pack a little patience and get to the airport in plenty of time when ready to head back home.

Take a Journey to Space Mountain in Orlando

You will have the choice of two different tracks for a rocket ride through space.  The Alpha and Omega tracks are mirror images of each other so you get the same thrilling rocket ride on either one.  The ride was updated last year to include more elements to add to the excitement of traveling through space.

Your rocket will climb up 180 feet through the mountain.  Although you are in the dark, you will experience pulsating lights, shooting stars, celestial satellites, and more.  The thrill of never knowing when you are going to turn or drop only adds to the thrill of the ride.

America’s Got Talent in Orlando Florida

Posted by: Travel Expert Posted Date: 11/02/2010

I’m not much of a reality television series kind of gal, but I must say I got hooked on this year’s season of America’s Got Talent.  My obsession was due mainly to the sensational singing of 10-year old Jackie Evancho.

I couldn’t believe that amazing voice came from such a young person.  Jackie didn’t win in the end, but I get to see her and other finalists on November 7, 2010 at Bob Carr Performing Arts Centre in Orlando.

See AGT Winner Michael Grimm and Other Finalists

Michael Grimm was the ultimate winner of this year’s America’s Got Talent and boy does he.  He’s multi-talented as a singer, songwriter, and guitarist.  The live tour is hosted by Jerry Springer and fortunately, there will be no chair throwing events at this concert.

You will see many of this year’s favorites including 12- year-old ballroom dancing partners Anna and Patryk, singing sisters Christina & Ali, stunt bike rider Jeremy VanSchoonhoven, magician/illusionist Michael Grasso, opera singer Prince Poppycock, performance troupe Fighting Gravity, hometown dance troupe Studio One Young Beast Society, and pop singer/musician Taylor Mathews.

Enjoy a Wide Range of Talent

I think what I like most about America’s Got Talent is there is a little bit of something for everyone.  While I definitely had my favorites, I certainly enjoyed all of those who made it into the finals.  You won’t be disappointed with any of the acts on the live tour.

Save on Orlando Travel

Discovery Cove to Open The Grand Reef

Discovery Cove is one of my favorite attractions in all of Orlando.  It really is unlike any other theme park and now they are embarking on an addition that is bound to only increase the wonderful experience we can have there.  Inspired by reefs from around the world, The Grand Reef will be opening in the summer of 2011 and will offer new levels of exploration.

Snorkel, Dive, or Wade with Exotic Marine Life

The Grand Reef will feature several levels of exploration.  Guests can wade through shallow waters to see abundant sea life or snorkel with exotic fish and stunning rays.  Paths and bridges lead to reef sharks, lionfish, wrasses, and eagle rays. The Giant Reef experience will also include SeaVenture, an underwater walking tour.  Don a dive helmet and view incredible sea life from behind panoramic windows.

Orlando is doing its part to paint the town pink.  According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), aside from non-melanoma skin cancer, breast cancer is the most common form of cancer in women.  It is the number one cause of cancer death in Hispanic women and the second most common cause in White and African American women.

While there has been a decrease in the mortality rate over the last 40 years, it is important to be proactive in looking for signs of breast cancer through yearly physicals or mammograms and monthly self-examinations.

Orlando Prepares for Amway Center’s Grand Opening and Mayor’s Address

Posted by: Travel Expert Posted Date: 09/28/2010

Amway Center in OrlandoOrlando and all of Central Florida are abuzz about the opening of the technologically-advanced Amway Center.  On Friday, October 1, 2010, the long awaited opening of the new Amway Center will finally happen.  Opening day activities will kick off at 9:30 am with the ribbon cutting ceremony occurring at 10:01 am.  (10:01 am on 10/1, get it?).

Orlando Community to Get First Peak of the New Amway Center

After the ribbon cutting, the public will be allowed into the lower bowl to hear Mayor Buddy Dyer’s Annual State of Downtown Address.  The event is free to the public and a huge crowd is expected.  Something tells me the big draw is coming mainly from those wanting to see the interior of Amway Center, not necessarily to hear the address from the Mayor.

See Amway Center and All That Orlando Has to Offer

Amway Center will be the home of the Orlando Magic, Orlando Predators, and the site of many concerts and special events.  Whether you are a Central Floridian or one of our distinguished out-of-town guests, don’t miss the opportunity to see the opening of Amway Center or any of the other attractions in the area.  You can find savings on flights, hotels, and more by reserving all your travel needs through OrlandoTravelHotels.com.  Visit the site and you will also find listings for things to do, area restaurants, shopping, and more.  See what all the excitement is about surrounding the opening of the new Amway Center by being there in person.

Grab Your Golf Bag and Head to Orlando

Orlando Public Golf CoursesI am always amazed at the number of golf bags I see on the carousel when traveling in and out of Orlando International Airport.  Orlando and Central Florida are hotbeds for the golfing community and there are many top-quality golf courses which are open to the public.  Now, we aren’t talking your run-of-the-mill old golf course, we are talking about many golf courses that could host a major tournament.

Picking Your Golfing Poison

If you are a hacker like me, you might feel more comfortable playing a course where those like us gather.  But if you are a no-handicapper, get your tiger on and play some of the exceptional courses in the area.  Here are a few of my favorites:

1.    Orange County National – has been rated as one of the top if not the best, public courses to play in all of Florida.

2.    Southern Dunes – has been ranked the #6 by Golf Digest as “Best in the State”.  It has recently been renovated so it might move up in the rankings.

3.    ChampionsGate Golf Club – a renowned golfing facility with two courses designed by Greg Norman.

4.    Mystic Dunes – the five levels of tee boxes will accommodate any player.

If you are looking for a little relaxation but want to be close to all the activities Orlando has to offer, your reservations at The Westin Imagine Orlando. This fabulous art-deco hotel is our hotel of the week for July 12, 2010.  Located on Universal Boulevard, it is conveniently located to the area’s most popular attractions.

Keeping with the Westin Traditions

Westin Hotels & Resorts is one of my favorite lodging chains.  Their service and accommodations have always been excellent in my experience.  But I particularly like The Westin Imagine because of its art-deco style.  These touches really make this hotel stand out.  The rooms are nicely appointed and some have kitchenettes or full-sized kitchens.  That can bring additional cost savings when you can prepare meals in your hotel room versus eating out all the time.  Did I mention the quest rooms have Heavenly Beds®?  They are the bomb in my opinion.

What’s Nearby

The location of The Westin Imagine Orlando  puts it right in the middle of some of the best attractions, nightlife, and shopping.  Here are a couple of our favorite things to do:
1.    Acqua Pool Party – held on every Thursday night from 5-10 pm at The Westin Imagine Orlando outdoor pool.  You’ll find awesome music and great drink special.
2.    Blue Man Group  – this world-renowned live stage show is sure to entertain everyone on the family.  Performing nightly at Universal Orlando Resorts.
3.    SeaWorld After Dark – experience SeaWorld in a whole new light, at night.
